Whether you’re considering living or just visiting Franklin County, it’s worth knowing some places to go in the city. Continue to read to find some cool things to do.

Visit The Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum

Opened in 2014, the Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum showcases artifacts linked to the Civil War in Franklin County and the battles of the Pennsylvania Campaign of 1863 and Monterey Pass. If you’re a history lover, you can’t miss out.

Eat Franklin County Fresh

You can pop in the North Square Farmer’s Market in Chambersburg during summer or early fall for homegrown fruits and vegetables, local cheeses, and bakery goods.

If you’re looking for entertainment, there are live music performances and free kids’ activities too.

Explore Nature

Living in Pennsylvania means that there are enough outdoor places to choose from. Are you interested in going for a hike? Try the Appalachian Trail. Do you want to chill while surrounded by nature? Head to one of Franklin Country’s state parks.

In 2014, Waynesboro and Washington Township officially became an Appalachian Trail Community (a designation given to encourage a partnership between the local community and hikers). Therefore, you’ll likely find some supportive faces if you try hiking in these areas.

If hiking is not your thing, but you’re into parks, you’re lucky, because there are plenty in Franklin County (like Mont Alto State Park, Buchanan’s Birthplace State Park, Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Caledonia State Park, and Cowans Gap State Park).

Try Some of the Local Wines

If you’re a wine enthusiast, you have to stop by the local wineries.

The Tuscarora Mountain Winery uses local products (including strawberries, blueberries, apples, grapes, cherries, and peaches) to produce award-winning wines. Pop in the tasting room to appreciate some tasty blush, red and white wines.

You may also be interested in checking out Jan Zell Wines for wine tasting. Their ciders and wines are produced locally in PA (Fort Loudon), so you’ll still have a unique, local experience.
